Duncan Clyma - Filmmaker & Editor

My filmmaking journey began when I was a child making lego stop motion movies in iMovie with my cousin. Such activities fostered a spark in me that finally became realized when I took a video production class in high school. In this course I fell in love with making and editing videos. Most of my early films consisted of lighthearted comedy skits, but they inspired me to pursue filmmaking on a more serious level. In 2025 I graduated with a Bachelor's of Fine Arts in Film Production from the University of Colorado at Boulder. All along my journey so far I have been inspired by my many talented mentors as I grow as an artist.

Film work

For me, editing is the most important and rewarding part of the filmmaking process. Editors carefully craft resources compiled and produced by the production team into the final story.

Professional and Social Media Work

As part of my editing process, I first focus on cutting all of the "fat". The first question I always ask myself is "Do we really need this?" In my mind, a tight 4 minute project is always better than a bloated 8 minute one. Quality over quantity.

When producing content for a company my top priority is always practicing timely responsiveness and effective communication with the team. My goal is to make something that meets the expectations and requirements of everyone involved.

My philosophy when it comes to social media is that entertainment is the ticket to effectively delivering information. Everyday countless ads try to sell something to your viewer. The way to catch their attention is to entertain them.

As a filmmaker I try and focus on developing unique ideas. My goal for every one of my films is to make something that truly has never been seen before, either in idea or execution. In every case, creativity is the ingredient most critical to my process. Genre-wise I favor comedy and narrative focused projects. My dry sense of humor is greatly inspired by the styles of Monty Python and Wes Anderson. The absurd nature of my projects is always taken seriously by the characters in them. When I'm not working on narrative pieces I love practicing experimental and documentary filmmaking, often in combination with one another. I feel endlessly inspired by the world around me and love to capture whatever I can on film. My brainstorming process for these types of projects prioritizes my perspective as a silent observer, someone seeking to notice the unnoticed. As a filmmaker I am always exploring and expanding. My style will continue to evolve with my person, but my roots are cemented in the wacky and wonderful.
